Sight Extended
Here’s a look at the Kickstarter funded indie film ‘Sight Extended’, a reimagining of the short film Sight (2012). It is yet to be officially released, but we were lucky enough to catch a pre-screening.
Set in the near future, most of the interfaces revolve around augmented reality eyepieces, which is quite fascinating when you compare it to the film Her (2013), where the future depicts everybody walking around with ear pieces. Films can have a great influence on how we shape the future and it’s so interesting to see different interpretations of what it could be.
A lot of the UI focuses on gamifying everyday life chores, so you’ll see nice examples of AR game interfaces. The UI also touches on social interactions, content browsing and also operating system UI, such as installation progress bars and loading screens etc.
The UX design is quite understated but does a really great job of demonstrating the function of each interface in the story. It’s intuitive and believable and the animation and transitions do a nice job of directing your focus.
In addition to that, the ideas for how to gamify everyday chores are really fun and creative. I really enjoyed seeing all the different ways to make mundane tasks like washing the dishes or taking out the garbage entertaining and rewarding.
Overall, I really enjoyed the film and being able to see all these ideas come to life was a real treat. Congrats to the team, I hope everyone gets a chance to see it.
The film is currently getting ready for distribution, however you can check out the official website for the trailer and the release date announcement.
